Candide (was wrong)~~Voltaire (was really wrong)
Our citizenship is in heaven
Text of the book reads:
Everything is for the best in this best
of all possible worlds if you follow one simple rule...Bank on the Pearl
of great price now and always.
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,
where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do
not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where
your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matthew 6: 19-21)

Candide is a naive soul who isn't aware that
the world he can see isn't all that there is. But Voltaire, his creator,
was a deist who believed that we were left here on our own to fend for
ourselves by a god who simply set the world spinning and then stepped out
of the picture. |
